   Kill 'em all. Scalp 'em all".  Yet we see a stream of men, women, and   
   children escaping the event on foot in the open as easy prey for the   
   troops.  I was trying to figure out whether this was simply a plot   
   device to retain these characters for later scenes or a demonstration   
   that the troops deliberately did not fully follow Chivington's clear   
   instructions. Were there typically escapees from cavalry massacre   
   scenarios?
