   I'm certainly no authority on horses or farm and   
   ranch animals in general, but this paragraph of   
   yours seems to answer many of your own questions   
   for you. Race horses typically are referred to as   
   "pure breds" - meaning they are bred from the winning   
   racers to be racers. And then there are breeds that   
   are bred to pull beer wagons, plows, and work cattle.
