   Don't forget Tom Mix. Not only was he a "real" cowboy   
   prior to Hollywood finding him - or vice versa - but   
   he also "rode with Pancho Villa" for a while, if one   
   is to believe what was written in the book, "Tom Mix   
   and Pancho Villa." Sorry-don't recall author's name.   
      
   Certainly there are many of Hollywood oater fame who   
   were also "working ranchers/cowboys" both before and   
   during their movie making days. Roy Rogers comes to mind   
   as someone who always owned his own ranch and raised and   
   trained his own horses. I seem to recall Gene Autry was   
   also a ranch owner.
