|    Problem installing BeOS 5 Max from CD    |
|    22 Sep 03 23:57:42    |
From: mbf8@yahoo.com              I've downloaded the BeOS CD images and burned them according to the       instructions using Nero. The CDs boot, but I can't get the       installation process started. Without safe mode, it gets to the end       of the first part (where it has the little icons at the top of the       screen to show its progress) then locks up. I've used various safe       mode settings and got a little bit further, it recognises my USB       mouse and I get the cursor onscreen, followed by a dialogue box       saying something like, "BeOS 5 Max can be downloaded from blah       blah...". When I click on "OK" it starts to eject the CD and reboots       the computer.              I've tried the version 2.1 and version 3 CD images from bebits, the       only difference is that the 2.1 version doesn't show the dialogue box       before it crashes. I've also tried using generic VGA graphics in case       it's a graphics problem, but no luck.              My specs are as follows:              AthlonXP 1800+ Mobile processor       512MB RAM       VIA ProSavage DDR KN266 chipset       Integrated Savage8 DDR graphics (32MB) and VT8233 sound       Matsushita CDRW CW-8121              I doubt this could be the problem, but my 40GB hard disk is set up as       follows:              First primary partition: 8GB (NTFS, WindowsXP)       Second primary partition: 4.66GB (ReiserFS, Linux)       First partition in the Extended partition: 512MB (Linux swap)       Second partition in the Extended partition: 23.75GB (NTFS)              The BeOS installation is intended to go on what is currently the       Linux partition.              Thanks for any help.              Matt              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
