|    Problems connecting to ISP with Be.    |

From: wove@copper.net              I am running Be on an old Mac with a Global Village 56k modem. I changed my       ISP from Earthlink to Copper.net and I can not seem to get connected with       Be. Be connected through Earthlink without any problems.              Copper has a local phone number, the phone number is common to a number of       ISPs. It is the number one calls for Juno, PC Connect and several other       smaller but nationwide providers. The phone line and connection point is       provided by Quest.              Watching the process in a terminal window I see that the call is made, a       standard user name/password logon takes place. The terminal window closes,       Be reports a connection and then a second or two later it reports       "disconnected".              Looking at a log of a PPP connection with Linux, one sees the same       name/password logon, then about 1K of garbage charcters comes through. At       the end of the garbage it shows that you are connected to a machine located       in a different town, and with Linux you stay connected and everything works       as normal.              Perhaps some network savy users know how this connection works. It appears       to me that Be connects initially and the connection gets dropped somewhere       while the connection is being transfered to another machine.              Since I know that Mac, Windows and Linux can connect to this number I am       somewhat confident that Be should connect as well. I have tried all the       different combinations available in "dialup networking" without any success       and hope that someone can shed some light on my problem and provide some       pointers to a solution.              thanks       bill       --       \/\/i||i@^^ ()\/e              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
