    We used to have that, so I see no reason why we shouldn't   
    have that today. Think about it, four out of five electrical   
    appliances that surround myself on a daily basis are instant-on   
    (for me that's two-three seconds from power-on).   
      
    Trouble is, programs have grown tremendously in complexity   
    and size. The mass storage devices used to store them have too,   
    but not their speed -- transfer rates and access times.
