   I think it would be wise to try zipping as it will preserve the file   
   attributes. I am surprised you had problems with the mail files though - when   
   I stopped using BeOS I was able to drag and drop mail files directly into my   
   Windows mail client. People files were of no use as the were 0 byte files.
