   You use a real modem and not a WinModem, which relies on Windows to actually   
   make it work. Linux geniuses have worked around a few popular WinModems,   
   but how is Linux supposed to operate equipment that's non-standard like   
   that? I guess you'd be upset if your WinModem didn't work in a Mac, either?
