OK, now I am confused with the Valor DSL. I called Valor tech and they   
   asked if the DSL light on the modem was on or blinkng, and I said   
   blinking. They suggestted I make a direct connection to the telephone   
   outlet and I did, and the DSL light stayed on and I booted into   
   Mandrake. I just told Mandrake it was a cable modem and to use DHCP. It   
   worked perfectly. I then decided to boot into BeOS and it worked there   
   too, without DSL software using just DHCP...believe it or not.   
      
   Now after using it for a few hours, I can not connect to the internet in   
   BeOS even after wiping out all info in Networking. I have a second   
   different high speed service and switching to it and restarting   
   Networking I got the same results, but I could download my mail, just no   
   webpages found. Weird huh..Dwight
