   Someone else has independently reported that when using   
   Putty, and entering a "1", it does detect that it is a digit.   
      
   However, they seem to only get that reported intermittently.   
      
   All of the software involved is too immature (or at least,   
   not gone through this code path) to be sure of who is at   
   fault at the moment.
