   The application needs to handle it. I'm not sure how   
   it makes sense for a C library (with or without the aid   
   of the OS) to handle the internal protocol details of   
   random protocols. You wouldn't need fread() you would   
   need some sort of complicated non-C90 function that   
   retrieves tokenized data.
