   I'm sure that it could.  I have one Dell computer in the house which   
   loads an OS from the first partition, to provide a significant portion   
   of the non-OS related BIOS functionality, e.g., memory tester, device   
   tester, fan speed check, mouse check, keyboard check, etc.

   Been done.  It wasn't just Dell either.  HP did so too.  Some of their   
   machines have a dedicated partition for BIOS too.  Obviously, this is   
   the BIOS proper, it's the extra BIOS features.   
      
   I'm not sure yet what happens if you delete Dell's partition, as the   
   machine is still in use.  However, I read online that if you delete HP's   
   partition, the machine is bricked.  I.e., you have to recreate the   
   partition, and install their setup software.
