   A bios is supplied by the hardware manufacturer. A HAL is part of the OS   
   Kernel. Windows, for instance, will not run on a PC without a HAL.   
      
   UEFI is a bios replacement. That is why there are no legacy INT calls in it.   
   It is a completely new method of dealing with the CPU and hardware on the   
   motherboard. The big problem with bios is that it is only 16-bit.
