   The first episode of the series, titled "Pie-lette", introduces the main   
   characters and their quirky world. Ned and Chuck reunite after he brings her   
   back from the dead, but they can never touch again or she will die   
   permanently. They team up with    
   Emerson Cod, a cynical detective, to find out who killed Chuck and why. Along   
   the way, they encounter a greedy funeral director, a pair of eccentric aunts,   
   and a mysterious traveler with a penchant for pies.   
      
   The episode was aired on October 3, 2007 on ABC. It was written by Bryan   
   Fuller, the creator of the show, and directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, who also   
   served as an executive producer. The episode received critical acclaim and won   
   several awards, including

   The plot summary of the episode is as follows:   
      
      
   Ned, a pie-maker who can bring the dead back to life with a touch, but only   
   for a minute, is contacted by Emerson Cod, a private investigator who knows   
   his secret and offers him money to help him solve murders.   
   Ned agrees to revive Chuck, a young woman who was killed on a cruise ship by a   
   mysterious man. Ned recognizes Chuck as his childhood sweetheart, whom he has   
   not seen since he was nine years old.   
   Ned decides to keep Chuck alive by not touching her again, which means that   
   someone else in the vicinity had to die instead. He later learns that it was   
   the funeral director who was supposed to bury Chuck.   
   Chuck moves in with Ned at his apartment above his pie shop, The Pie Hole. She   
   meets Olive Snook, a waitress who has a crush on Ned, and Digby, Ned's dog who   
   was also revived by him as a child.   
   Ned and Chuck visit Chuck's aunts, Lily and Vivian Charles, who raised her   
   after her father died. They pretend to be door-to-door salespeople and give   
   them a pie. They learn that Chuck's father was also killed by the same man who   
   killed Chuck.   
   Ned and Emerson track down the killer, who turns out to be a hired assassin   
   named Lawrence Schatz. They confront him at his hotel room, where he reveals   
   that he was hired by Dwight Dixon, a former friend of Chuck's father.   
   Ned and Emerson manage to subdue Schatz and call the police. However, Schatz   
   escapes from the handcuffs and tries to kill Ned. Chuck intervenes and touches   
   Schatz, killing him for good.   
   Ned and Chuck share their first kiss through plastic wrap. They decide to   
   continue working with Emerson and solving crimes together.
