   Those are all very legitimate use cases for VPNs but you're missing   
   another main use. To run your own VPN at home so you can access your   
   internal network securely from anywhere in the world, including public   
   spaces. It's legit. This is my main use and I use it daily. I use it for   
   both laptop access to my home network and mobile phones.   
      
   Combine VPN and ad-blocking with Pi-hole and you have a super   
   secure/private connection from anywhere back to your home:
