I'm afraid that the other       > partition could be erased...              I don't use Mint, I use Ubuntu, but are you doing an in situ upgrade or       a overwrite fresh install?              I would say that if use the advanced/manual step for partitioning in       setup and you select the correct partition for "/" and "/home" and DO       NOT format "/home" that should work (*with the standard caveat:* you       should backup all before proceeding). Spinning hard drives are still       pretty cheap.
