   I've been fortunate to have cable internet connectivity since the mid   
   90s, but when I tried to 'connect' my parents to the internet in the   
   same timeframe, I found that their connectivity was ONLY dialup.   
      
   There are a lot of technologies between those two and 'beyond'   
   conventional cable such as optical.
