   I have the same Mint version (see below) on two machines.   
   I hated the default version of Chrome installed on my work machine for   
   same reason given in this thread.   
      
   I uninstalled it and installed the version from the chromium web site.   
   The problem was gone.   
      
   I still have it on the other (HTPC) machine.
