   FWIW I've a new Epson (V39II), and sane behaves very oddly.   
      
   xsane starts with 4800 dpi set, but allows setting of 384 at the bottom   
   end, then 400, 480, and upwards. The 384 is very odd.   
      
   Simple Scan offers 75, 150, 200, 300...2400 dpi.   
      
   Epson Scan 2 offers much the same plus 240 but up to 1200 only. You can,   
   in addition, type in your own choice as well.   
      
   (Epson's declared resolution is 4800dpi)   
      
   I've no idea what is responsible for the different resolution   
   selections. sane is especially annoying: it won't allow my preferred 200dpi.
