     IME, it *is* unique to Linux help. And that's being said by a 40++   
   year Unix/UNIX veteran.   
      
     Yes, there may be exceptions, but in the Linux newsgroups,   
   condescension is way more common than in for example Windows and Android   
   newsgroups.   
      
     But perhaps the condescension is mainly on *Usenet*?
