   I should point out that that command sequence is a bit simpleminded in one   
   respect: it assumes the man page source will always be gzip-compressed. If   
   the “man -w «topic»” returns the name of a non-compressed text file, then   
   the gunzip command will fail.   
      
   The alternative command that should be used in this situation is more like   
      
       groff $(man -w «topic») -ktman -Tpdf | okular -
