     And misinformed to boot!

Apple's GUI elements were *licensed to* Microsoft, not copied. (And of
course these GUI elements were *part* of the Macintosh' OS, not the
   whole OS.)

After the fact, Apple sued Microsoft (and Hewlett-Packard) and lost
all the way to the Supreme Court.

[First part of the 'AI Overview' from a Google search on 'apple
   microsoft lawsuit over windows':]

"In 1988, Apple sued Microsoft and Hewlett-Packard for copyright
infringement, claiming Windows' graphical user interface (GUI)
illegally copied Apple's Macintosh. However, the lawsuit was largely
unsuccessful for Apple because a 1985 agreement between the companies
covered many of the disputed elements in Windows. The court ultimately
ruled that most of Apple's claims were covered by the license or were
uncopyrightable ideas, establishing that the basic concept of a GUI was
    not patentable."

But let's make a similar - but more realistic - 'comeback':

     "Linux was copied from Unix."
