   While this discussion is not intended as a recipe for fixing   
   your problem exactly, it highlights that Brave is "foreign materials"   
   with insufficient planning for some reason. People are fooling   
   with their .desktop file, the "goods" for one of the people   
   here is in /opt . Since you've been running the Brave browser by other   
   means, the installation is likely not broken, but you may want to review   
   whether there is even a .desktop file present. It might be missing.
