   It could be that some squelch on the input,   
   is cutting off the early input. Strike your   
   cow bell several times then start speaking,   
   so the channel is fully enabled.   
      
   You can get better microphones, such as a can   
   shaped like an Alexa that has seven microphones   
   on the lid and functions as a phased array. Such   
   devices can have a narrower angle of acceptance, and   
   you can use these to cut off fan noise.
