   That’s a helluva complicated way to gain access.   
      
   The “dd” command I mentioned elsewhere can do a straight copy of a   
   partition or entire disk to an image file, which can be directly   
   mounted using the regular “mount” command.   
      
   And then of course you can avoid the whole image business altogether,   
   by using rsync to do file-level backups, as we have discussed   
   (multiple times) before.
