|    problems with wifi?    |

From: bliss-sf4ever@dslextreme.com               Well I had them until I got to the SF-LUG meeting earlier       today but I don't seem to have them any longer. I could seldom       connect lately to the coffee shop WiFi where we meet and when I       could connect I could not download my mail. Usually Usenet came       though ok. After the sketchily described procedures below I       was able to get both and as usual use Firefox to browse the Web.        A couple of club members and friends helped me to repair       it as they have real skills and great knowledge of GNU/Linux.        I run Mandriva 64 bit 2010.2 which started out as 2010.1       At some point the driver supplied for my AR5001 WiFi card       became broken. This is on a Compaq Notebook with an Athlon X2.        Daniel G. let me piggyback on his smart phone through       a USB connection so that I could get to the net. We had       to blacklist the original driver and I already had the       requisite driver from previous attempts to fix the matter.        Ken S. helped with the diagnosis and helped       identify the missing rfkill command which I used the smart       phone connection to download to my notebook.        So if you are having trouble with the wifi card on       a notebook or similar machine you might want to look at the       driver and check Google to see if the driver you have been       using is one that has become a hindrance rather than an       tool.               bliss              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
