   Nightmare!   
      
   I had uninstalled pulseaudio (don't ask).   
      
   When I rebooted, there was no KDE4 desktop, just a simple login box for my   
   username and then for the password. After that two small terminal screens.   
   I couldn't find a solution amongst my notes nor by Googling. I would welcome   
   a wrist slap if accompanied by advice.
