If so I did not see the request for more information. The computer is my
travel laptop, which is also not always available. The problem is not
   resolved.
Computer is a Panasonic W7 toughbook. The automount works on mandriva
2009.1 desktop system (same usb stick) so it should not be that it does
   not recognize the stick.

   The output of dmesg is

   ---------------------------------

   scsi 5:0:0:0: Direct-Access USB Flash Memory 1.00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 2
sd 5:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg2 type 0
   sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] 3911616 512-byte logical blocks: (2.00 GB/1.86 GiB)
sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Write Protect is off
   sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Mode Sense: 65 44 09 30
sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
    sdb: sdb1 sdb2
sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
sd 5:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk

   --------------------------------------------
so it sees the usb drive and sets up /dev/sdb{1,2} for it but does not
   mount it.

sdb1 is a vfat formatted partition. sdb2 ( the first partition) is a
   mandriva One usb partition.
