I also know of one other       living relative who wasn't listed on the first page of that Google       search but is listed elsewhere online. Being a 2nd-generation American       (all four grandparents immigrated to the U.S. in the 20th century) makes       it easier to keep track of the relatives in this country but much more       difficult beyond that.              > My paternal surname is not real common (though not uncommon, I suppose)              http://names.whitepages.com/James/Beard (which has many links I think       you'll find interesting) claims it is #647 in the U.S. for 2011, about       twice as high up as my surname. My mother's maiden name ranked       842,664th. Smith is at the top.              > and from his grandchildren on down the name has consistently       > been spelled Bard.              Any relation to John Bard, founder of Bard College which is near me?       http://www.bard.edu/about/history/              As I mentioned a while ago, back when I was active in CompuServe's LDOS       Forum (a TRS-80 DOS) in the mid-80s to early 90s, there was a "Jim       Beard" active there, mentioned on       http://genealogy.math.ndsu.nodak.edu/id.php?id=45398 . I also like the       work of humorist (and "National Lampoon" co-founder) Henry Beard. And       of course there's the late chef.              Adam       --       Registered Linux User #536473              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
