OTOH just leaving them alone       for a few months effectively discharges them completely. I gather that       advice applies equally to the Nickel-Metal hydride batteries that have       replaced NiCds, now that cadmium is considered a hazardous material in       the U.S.              > Li-ion batteries don't have that       > requirement per se, but it is still a good idea to deplete the battery's       > charge virtually entirely every once in a while so as to prevent the       > development of "battery memory", even with Li-ion.               From reading the other posts here, that sounds like a slightly       controversial matter! :-) I'll be following this subthread with       interest! Right now, not having a laptop yet, the only Li-ion battery       that I know I have is the one in my cell phone. The problem with       discharging that one is that I may get an important call on it at any       moment, although not likely. Oh, and in my "new" digital camera, but I       have more than one battery for that.              Just to be complete, I'll mention lead-acid batteries, which I have in       my car and my UPS. I gather that, except for "deep cycle" batteries,       those should be kept as close to fully charged as possible.              Adam       --       Registered Linux User #536473              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
