   This I cannot tell you, I'm afraid. It defaults to alphabetical over   
   here, and as far as I know, when I close GIMP, it stores its last   
   configuration and uses that as the starting point when I open it up   
   again.   
      
   Are you seeing this same inverse order when using any of the other   
   GNOME/GTK+ applications? If so, then that may be a generic GNOME/GTK+   
   setting which affects all GNOME/GTK+ applications, and then you may need   
   to change it via gconf2 or something.
