   My /guess/ is that's exactly why (as I understand things) MS changed the   
   requirement for Windows 8 certification from "must have secure boot, OEM   
   may provide option to disable it if desired" to "must ship with secure   
   boot enabled, but must have option to disable secure boot."  Now they'll   
   be able to show that any user can install any OS on any Windows 8   
   machine by changing one setting in the hardware startup menu.  OTOH I   
   expect fewer people will try Linux when they see that the first step is   
   "disable secure boot", which could be interpreted as meaning anything   
   other than Windows 8 is somehow insecure.
