   What you tried will go to mysite.verizon.net, because there's a   
   valid DNS entry for that domain. The web server at that IP   
   address will return the error that "adam708" does not exist on   
   that server.   
      
   Try a ping to completely-totally-ficticious-random-junk.com   
   rather than an URL inside a subdomain that does exist. If that   
   goes to an IP address, it means VZ is redirecting.
