   Doug, please don't bite my head off if my reply annoys you - I'm only   
   trying to help. Do so, and I will stop.   
      
   I know nothing of EFI but what I have read, but I have read that the   
   secure boot part usually can be disabled - if that is indeed the   
   problem. I would expect that installing a BIOS update could easily reset   
   everything to the new defaults, one of which could be enabling secure   
   boot, and perhaps before condemning the distros you need to go through   
   your BIOS settings, change what needs to be changed, and try again. That   
   is the first step *I'd* take.
