   Mine is mounted all the time.  From memory, you need to have "users" in the   
   line in /etc/fstab.   
      
   man mount says about the option "users":   
      
   users  Allow  every  user  to  mount  and unmount the filesystem.  This   
                 option implies the options noexec,  nosuid,  and  nodev(unless   
                 overridden   by  subsequent  options,  as  in  the  option   
   line   
                 users,exec,dev,suid).   
      
   In my experience, the word "users" is often the first of the comma-separated   
   list of options.
