The distro versions are the extended support release, and are being
updated with security and bugfix patches.

The only difference between 10.x and 16.x is that 16.x includes new
features, such as the developers tool bar. Every time a new feature
is added, it adds unknown bugs and possible security holes.

In addition, each distro ensures the version it distributes works with
the version of the required libraries, it distributes.

There have been several updates where they didn't pass through the qa
system on Mageia due to regressions being found, and were replaced
with new updates before being released as regular updates.

So for firefox, thunderbird, VirtualBox, etc., the distro version should
be the preferred version, provided the distro is providing the updates
   in a timely fashion.
