There are two more to consider, two that won't necessarily be provided
by the distro: java and the flashplayer plugin.

Because of licensing changes, most distros will not be providing
Oracle's JDK/JRE packages beyond 1.6.x. Instead, most will use the open
source openjdk and icedtea-web. They are incompatible with each other,
so if you use one you won't use the other. You have to download Oracle's
   version from Oracle.

Adobe has announced that the general flashplayer plugin for Linux will
not be developed beyond 11.2.x. For Linux, the latest and greatest is
integrated into Google's Chrome. Not Chromium, Chrome.
