The 250 GB IDE drive I use daily started making disturbing noises       and operations slowed down, like it was throwing errors part of the       time. I've been through that before - it's on the way out. That's what I       get for buying a used drive on eBay, I suppose. But I got three years       out of it, so I can't complain TOO much.              Anyway, I've made a backup of the data on the new external drive, which,       with the one I made last week on the old external drive, makes two.       Should be enough. I've stopped using it, and bought a replacement -       again on eBay, but an unused one this time. This time I got a 500 GB       SATA drive. (I bought the IDE drive for my old motherboard, which didn't       support SATA. My present mb does.)              So I'm going from two IDE drives to a single IDE and a single SATA.       Should be interesting to see what kind of hoops I have to go through to       get this up and going. You'd think there wouldn't be any, but in my       experience with computers there's always something just waiting to trip       up clueless types like me.              TJ              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
