   My "test system" from late 2007 came with one internal SATA drive, and I   
   added an internal PATA drive.  (That's probably the last motherboard   
   I'll have with PATA and floppy connectors, as well as regular PCI   
   slots.)  I found that different distros (and boot managers) disagreed on   
   which one should be sda and which sdb.  It led to minor confusion during   
   installation, but after installation all was well with every distro.   
   Fortunately the drives were different sizes and had different numbers of   
   partitions, which made it easier to recognize which was which.
