XPost: alt.os.linux.mageia       From: stryder@telenet.be.invalid              On Thursday 07 February 2013 14:55, Dan C conveyed the following to       alt.os.linux.mageia...              > On Thu, 07 Feb 2013 11:18:06 +0000, Bit Twister wrote:       >       >> When your newsgroup becomes too noisy from troll and users responding       >> to trolls, your subject matter experts will unsubscribe and your       >> group could become nothing but troll heaven.       >       > The "too noisy" part is coming from you, troll boi.              I respectfully disagree. Bit Twister is neither a troll, nor is he too       noisy. I personally appreciate his contributions - if not for myself,       then at the very least towards the GNUbies - and he possesses great       knowledge and expertise.              I may not always agree with him - e.g. on account of his paranoia over       malware threats which so far seem to affect only Windows users - but as       an alpha and beta tester and a generally very helpful person, he is a       valuable member of the GNU/Linux community.              But then again, I don't always agree with you either, and yet I will       also still stand up for you when I find that you are receiving       undeserved flack.              You too are knowledgeable, but I wish you would share a little bit more       of your knowledge with those who are less adequately blessed than we are       in their ability to understand GNU/Linux, rather than to post only knee-       jerk reactions which unfortunately only pour more fuel on the fire and -       unintentionally, I'm sure - help the Win-trolls further their cause.              No Win-troll has ever "gone away" because you told him to - in fact, it       is my observation that it only motivates them more to yank our chains,       and especially yours - and the Win-trolls jump on the occasion your       knee-jerk reactions present to them for sucking up to the GNUbies and       pulling them over to their camp.              Our enemies - and they are so far _not_ to be found in _these_ two       newsgroups here - are smarter than you think. What they lack in       technical knowledge, they make up for in cunning and malevolence. Every       time you tell a GNUbie "Bugger off, Win-droid", the GNUbie will be       upset, and the trolls jump forward like hungry vultures on a dying prey       to offer their shoulders to cry on.              In the Dutch language, there is an old and religiously inspired       expression "Bij de duivel te biechten gaan", which roughly translates to       English as "Going to the devil for confessing your sins." And I'm       afraid you're the one who's driving them over to the devil's booth,       because of your attitude of shooting first and asking the questions       later.              This should have become clear even in the last two days in       alt.os.linux.ubuntu, where you once again managed to upset at least one,       and possibly two new posters, and as we could all see, T I M, DanS and       mechanic were jumping all over the threads to reel the GNUbies in. As a       result, these trolls have gained more credibility now among the GNUbies,       and moreover, *we* as GNU/Linux users have *lost* credibility.              I would therefore suggest that you revise your strategy, if not for the       sake of your own credibility towards the GNUbies, then at least do it       for the sake of the GNUbies themselves and the credibility of (and peace       in) the newsgroups you reside in. It may give you personal satisfaction       to carry on with what you are currently doing, but your current strategy       is not a very wise one. In the long run - and even in the short run, to       be honest - it's not doing any good to the GNU/Linux community. On the       contrary, even. It only renders the trolls more ammunition for taking       over GNU/Linux newsgroups and driving the decent posters away.              All of the above is just my opinion, for whatever it's worth to you.       You take it or you leave it as you please - that's your prerogative. It       is not my place to tell you what you can and cannot do. I'm just the       messenger pointing out the facts.              Now carry on, sailor. ;-)              --       = Aragorn =       (registered GNU/Linux user #223157)              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
