   In addition to everybody else's suggestions, I'd suggest (if you have   
   her permission) starting off by using your sister's computer and her   
   account to download and burn a newer version of Mandriva (and/or other   
   distros) with checksums.  (Then during the week, you can work on   
   installing it at home.)  While that's going on in the background, you   
   can tackle everything else.  In fact, if you encounter any problems, you   
   can use your sister's computer to go online for solutions.
