   I would not be comfortable using an older kernel, in this case, unless   
   I was able to confirm the older kernel was not vulnerable to this exploit.   
      
   In general, I have no problem with using an older kernel.   
      
   I agree new kernels can cause problems, as shown at the start of Mageia 2   
   the problems getting the pata drivers loaded soon enough. Staying with   
   an older kernel is fine, provided it gets security patches applied.
