   But that could well have been clarified has you read   
   man rm   
   since you would have seen -f and -r defined there ( and thus known that   
   those existed) and seen the terse descriptions, which might have caused   
   you to recognise that that was what you needed.   
      
   Of course with more complex programs (rsync, rpm) where there are 20   
   pages of options, finding what you need can be pretty tedious.
