   If you are where I think you are, that is expected.   
   While you are there, create a new user, say junk. Just in case you   
   screw up daniel's primary group and can not get back in as daniel.   
   That would allow you to use junk to get back in and fix daniel.

   No.   
      
   Click up a terminal in your user account/login, run the command "id".   
      
   Do you see the dialout group in the list? If not, you have to get to   
   the group dialout, and add daniel, log out/in as daniel and run the id   
   command again. I would expect you to see something like, but not exactly:   
      
   $ id   
   uid=500(daniel) gid=500(daniel) groups=500(daniel),83(dialout)   
      
   83 is the number on Mageia 3, no telling what is on your install.
