   I highly recommend just   
       chown -R daniel:daniel /home/daniel   
   That way you know all files in /home/daniel are owned by daniel.   
      
   For the newbies/lurkers:   
   You usually find files owned by root in a user account because the   
   su command was used instead of su - root.   
      
   Just su will get you root access, but work files or whatever can   
   become owned by root in the user's directory, not to mention still   
   using the user's environment/settings.  :(   
      
   su - or su - root will log you in as root AND in root's directory with   
   root's environment/settings.
