People, please re-read what he posted. On Fri, 03 May 2013 23:20:30
   +1000 in Message-ID: he writes
   that the script contains:

]echo "copies my config and tries to start ppp"
   ]sudo cp -pf /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0.rhw
   ]/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/chat-ppp0

   and

   ]echo "Trying to connect"
]sudo pppd lock modem crtscts asyncmap 00000000 defaultroute usepeerdns
   ]debug /dev/ttyUSB0 460800 ipparam ppp0 linkname ppp0 call ppp0 noauth
   ] || exit

and when he runs the script (see Message-ID:
    on Sat, 04 May 2013 22:37:40
   +1000), he sees:

   ][daniel@localhost ~]$ ./ppp.sh
]copies my config and tries to start ppp
]daniel is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
   ]Trying to connect
]daniel is not in the sudoers file. This incident will be reported.
   ][daniel@localhost ~]$

This quite obviously does not have anything to do with SUID, group
membership, the desktop environment, browser, network "helper" tools,
confusion of user configuration files or any other BS.

   >the only installs I'm using are the Win7 and MD2009 installs, so the

Daniel, when you initially installed this script from your ISP, you
received specific instructions from them to ALSO edit the sudoers file.
At that time, you did so, and everything was working fine. In your
re-install, you didn't edit that file, so sudo is preventing you from
running those commands as user "daniel". It's NOT preventing you from
doing so when you 'su' to root and then run it. The Mandriva install
wouldn't know "this" username would need to run "that" script (and the
commands it contains) so it wouldn't fix the sudoer's file by default.
The solution is to find those instructions from the ISP, and edit the
sudoers file as it says to.

[fermi ~]$ whatis sudo sudoers visudo
sudo (8) - execute a command as another user
sudoers (5) - list of which users may execute what
visudo (8) - edit the sudoers file
   [fermi ~]$

'visudo' is a bit scary to the uninitiated, and there is likely some
simple "helper" tool to make it easier, but the instructions you
received from the ISP worked before, and you can do it again.
