Has anyone installed KDE 4.10 from source?                      That is correct, I am using PCLOS KDE x86_64 2013.04 which is nearly as       interesting as the Moondrake or as it was called when I got       it alpha Mandriva 2012. That Mandriva seemed to fall apart in use.       I paid for Powerpack 2011 but found it was not easily compatible with       the machine I used to run Powerpack 2010.2. I started trying out other       distributions, skipping the Mageia 1 and 2. I had Mageia 3 running from       a live CD briefly. I tried the first RC-PCLOS x86_64 release and was       impressed but waited a month or two and then got the PCLOS as described       above.        PC Linux is now a rolling release which means as it is improved       the recompilation is issued so that no more waiting for years between       significant updates. It is very like Mandriva with a Computer       Configuration Control center and lots of interesting tools for dealing       with commercially released DVDs and VLC for playing nearly anything that       is digitally available. LibreOffice comes with it as well as most of       the usual tools        It does run KDE 1.10.1 and uses kernel 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs.        Check into bfs if you need a giggle.        KDE 4.10.2 is on some distro and I have run kernel 3.8.? from       one or another live distro.               I really like it and it will cost me no more than I am willing to pay.        The only point i disparage is that the install is split into regular       install then reboot and starting up it asks for the root password and       the User name and password, but maybe I am just too used to the old       Mandriva tactics.        One other point is that the partition editor uses no color though using       color to discriminate between file systems seems to have been the       intent. Still was able to use it successfully to move stuff       around.               bliss                      --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
