   If the TV is going to (relatively reliably) stay on the stand, that   
   should be OK - but our TVs and our flat-panel monitors are all   
   free-standing and tend to be light enough that the cat can get a   
   shoulder in there,,, and HEAVE! (Not like the monstrous 21" Sony   
   that sat on my desk at work for several years - about 71 pounds.)

   Natural fibers tend to dry out and deteriorate over time.

   Understood - what I used with the (0.065 dia) weed-whacker cord is a   
   barrel or butt (crimp) splice meant for #14 AWG wire.
