From: karl.dalen21@gmail.com              Just an update, could not get passed the BIOS to boot from the HD.       As I mentioned the system boots the install dvd nicely and I       can install Mageia 3.0 on the 2TB hd but when I boot from hd       I just get message about "Reboot and select proper boot device"       and it stops there.       This is an ASUS P8B75-M/CSM Intel LGA1155 motherboard       I tried a lot of variations of BIOS setting, setting       "secure boot" to "legacy boot". (Can only choose between       UEFI and "legacy boot"). There is an option "CSM", which       according to the manuals is supposed to handle non-UEFI       compliant OS. I can choose between UEFI or "other OS".              No matter what I choose I could never boot the hd. I also reinstalled       Mageia with all options set to not choose UEFI but without       success. I still get the same message. I wonder if this board can       even boot anything other than Windows. I don't use Microsoft OS       and am not interesting in trying any Windows.              I can still boot from DVD and it looks like I can boot from USB       as well. I tried a Knoppix usb and got the prompt. I think       I just need a newer version and 64 bit since Knoppix gave me       blank screen later on in the start up. Even from DVD I got       problems with the 32-bit version. It may not support 8 GB of dram.              I wonder if I could boot something from USB and change the       GRUB menu to chain load the HD as a way to circumvent the bios boot       blocking. I would assume that a chain load is invoked from the grub       and loads the boot loader at the hd pointed to independently from       the bios direct control so maybe that could work or am I wrong       in that assumption?              Thanks,              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
