   rpm -qa gives all of the packages installed (by rpm which is almost all   
   of them). rpm -qal will list all of   
   the files.

   The problem is that packages change their names. (eg, I remember gimp   
   going to gimp2 and then going back to gimp-- and other have similar   
   problems. That was why updates from one version to another so rarely   
   work perfectly/well.
